Week 3 Q: My Bedraggled Daisy + Your Brain on Infographics

Hi everyone,

My bedraggled daisy is situated below. Let’s just say that it proves that I will never be a visual artist. 🙂

Jokes aside, as Prof. Galey predicted, this exercise was useful precisely because it forced me to think in a different medium. I tried to show the overlap between different concepts by literally coloring in the overlapping sections of the petals at their base.

In case anyone has trouble reading the writing on the daisy, the seven topic areas I was able to identify as being related to my topic were (moving counter-clockwise from the left):

-Fitness

-Economic Incentives

-Government Policy

-Research Study Design

-Survey and Questionnaire Design

-Cognitive Science/Psychology

-Motivation

This visualization exercise reminded me of the explosion in the use of infographics on the Web in recent years. Here’s an explanation of why their use has been so successful.
